The word “fear” here means reverence. The reason revering the Lord is the beginning of knowledge is because a reverent person opens his heart to read God’s Word with pure motives to learn His ways. A person who rejects the wisdom of God is considered a fool because he has ample evidence and information to make the right decision but chooses to ignore them.
